The University of Uppsala (2, UU), Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology is a leader in the biochemistry of heparin, heparan sulfate, and other glycosaminoglycans.  It has decisively contributed to advancement in the field, especially in biosynthetic and structure-function studies.  In preliminary collaboration with HMO, it has developed a sensitive, quantitative method for evaluting inhibition of the heparanase enzyme.
